All weekend I have been listening to the actor Ryan Goslings band Dead Mans Bones. I hadn't listened to that album in a while but stumbled across them again while transferring files onto the new hard drive for my new Aurender Flow DAC and Amp. Now, im 6'3 210lbs and used to fight Muay Thai in Thailand....you would then be forgiven for being surprised that I rank The Notebook as the greatest movie ever made... no homo..right? Gosling can act his ass off and other than wet staring and doing bugger all else in Only God Forgives (In the Bangkok, Muay Thai institute where I trained) he doesn't really make a bad movie. The guy is a god damm stud but did you even know who Dead Mans Bones were? I'll go as far as saying that the self titled debut Dead Mans Bones is one of the best albums of the past few years with some awsome stand out tracks like Pa Pa Power, My Bodies A Zombie For You. So that got me thinking what other artists out there have albums or tracks that are actually worth listening too? Who are the other double threats out there? Here is some of our favourite music to listen to from team Holywood
CHRISTOPHER MINTZ-PLASSE - THE YOUNG RAPSCALLIONS
This Motherf...... surprisingly is a double threat. Mintz-Plasse, as well as one of the more in demand younger actors is also a "kickass" drummer? You can probably tell what im doing but one listen to his band The Young Rapscallions and you will be McLovin it... Right now I got that out the way there is something about the smooth laid back yet gritty style thats very appealing. I have also heard that they are excellent live so something I want to check out if it comes my way.
HUGH LAURIE - SOLO + SUPER GROUP
I have never had any interest in watching the TV show "House" that actor Hugh Laurie is most well known from. To be honest it would bore me to sleep. What does interest me though is that Hugh is an amazingly talented Blues / Soul / Jazz performer. He also formed an super group composed of some other famous actors but its Laurie himself that is the star of the show. Great vocals, excellent pacing and he's pretty nifty on the ivory keys as well. One that every audiophile should have is his stand out solo album Let Them Talk.
MICHAEL CERA - MAYBE JUST A 1 & 1/2 THREAT
Cera is getting an honorary mention on this list of actors who are musicians not because he is actually in a band rather than him playing bass for Mister Heavenly alerted me to there existence. Michael got the gig when the band temporarily lost their basis and being a good friend offered to step in. He briefly toured with Mister Heavenly but never recorded anything with the group. Regardless, led by the frontman to one of my favourite groups, Modest Mouse, this band absolutely rip.
